A Bit About Us: Bamby and Rocky

Samex is located in the State of Michoacan, which is not one of the biggest but one of the most biodiverse regions in Mexico. Within a land of approximately 58,600 square kilometers (22,625 square miles), the whole landscape transitions from arid zones to tropical forests, and from coastal ecosystems to high-altitude pine and oak woodlands, as well as a volcanic zone.

This ecological richness is not just a backdrop to our work but a living system that makes avocado production possible, as it provides us with adequate temperature, altitude, and land nutrients for the avocado to grow with such flavor only found in the Mexican avocado.

Squirrels are native to these broad forests. They are agile, intelligent, and deeply integrated into the local ecosystem. In avocado orchards, however, they can also damage fruit and affect production. Therefore, they had been categorized as a plague by the pioneers of this industry, but we decided to develop a different posture by changing our perspective.

We recognize that this tension reflects a broader reality: agriculture exists within ecosystems, not outside of them. Responsible production requires us to develop a certain balance by protecting crops while respecting the natural systems in which we all participate.

Rocky and Bamby are two squirrels born in these forests. They were designed with distinct personalities that reflect the balance within our own organization.

On one side, Bamby is energetic, curious, and spontaneous. She asks questions and explores processes. She learns, she reacts, and sometimes she acts before thinking. She’s a symbol that reminds us that enthusiasm fuels growth.

On the other side, Rocky is analytical, structured, and precise. He values standards, clear procedures, and technical excellence. He ensures that things are done correctly and with responsibility.

Together, they embody the duality of nature in agriculture: curiosity and discipline, energy and structure, instinct and knowledge, humanity and precision. 

In a world that often prioritizes productivity above anything else, we choose to remember that our industry depends on living systems and that biodiversity is not optional but is a part of the same system we depend on.

Rocky and Bamby represent more than a brand image. They symbolize coexistence: a reminder that we are part of an ecosystem, not an egosystem.
